Spice Up Your Oatmeal

What words come to mind when I say oatmeal?  Boring?  Plain?  Yuck?  Well I assure you that if you have fun and change things up with your oatmeal than you can surely enjoy this hearty dish.  Oatmeal is the breakfast of champions and has been consumed as a breakfast item for centuries.  There is a reason it has been around so long.  It’s high fiber content keeps you feeling satisfied for hours, it has been proven to lower cholesterol, it naturally supply’s us with nutrients like iron and magnesium,  and it’s low in calories.  Just be sure sure you’re eating rolled or steel cut oats and avoid processed versions like instant oatmeal because it has less fiber, more sodium and usually more sugar too.

Cook your oatmeal in a crock-pot over night to expedite the morning breakfast ritual or cook it in the microwave with water.  Then add these ingredients for a breakfast that will lift your spirits and keep you satisfied throughout the morning.  Oh and oatmeal will keep you slim too.  Yet another reason to eat up!


Carrot Cake Inspired Oatmeal

1 shaved carrot

1/4cup coconut milk (or tbsp of coconut oil)

1/4cup yellow raisins

Handful crushed Walnuts (or any nut of your choice)

1tsp Cinnamon

1tsp nutmeg


Blueberry Muffin Inspired Oatmeal

1/2cup blueberries

Handful of crushed or sliced almonds

1tsp cinnamon

Dash vanilla extract

Sprinkle Brown Sugar on top

*add a 1/4cup of raisins if desired


Apple Pie Oatmeal

1/4cup almond or coconut milk

½ Apple, chopped

2tbsp Unsweetened Applesauce

2tbsp Chopped Walnuts

½ tsp Vanilla Extract

1tsp Lemon Juice

1tsp Cinnamon

1tsp Ginger

Drizzle Agave Nectar or Maple Syrup on top


Hearty Oatmeal

1/2cup soy, almond or coconut milk

1/4cup sunflower seeds

1/4cup raisins

a few whole Almonds

Drizzle Agave Nectar on top
